There are 2 levels of competition in History Bee:
Phase I is a written test with 25 questions. All contestants will get the same 25 questions. The contestants will have 30 minutes to complete Phase I.
Phase II contains five rounds with each student getting a different question. The contestant is not allowed to ask the judges any information on the question. The contestant is allowed 30 seconds to provide his/her choice of the answer. The judges may award zero points to any contestant who ignores a request to start giving an answer.
Background:
History is important because it allows us to understand our past, which in turn allows understanding our present. Studying history can also provide us with insight into our cultures of origin as well as cultures with which we might be less familiar, thereby increasing cross-¬‐cultural awareness and understanding. Currently there are history competitions for elementary, middle, and high school students at regional, national, and international levels conducted by the International Academic Competitions (www.iacompetitions.com). History Competitions include National History Bee and Bowl for elementary and middle school students and National History Bee, US History Bee, and History Bowl for high school students. International History Olympiad is conducted for middle and high school students.
History Bee Pilot Plan:
The intent of the 2019 Pilot is to introduce a History Bee contest at North South Foundation’s US Regional contests to encourage kids to pursue academic excellence in the field of history and to help prepare them to compete and succeed at the national and international history competitions. The History contest will be introduced at the regional level only (no National Finals for History Bee during 2019) and will have Junior History Bee and Senior History Bee component. The Junior History Bee will be for grades 1-¬‐3 and Senior History Bee will be for grades 4-¬‐8.
Format :
The questions will be based on the following categories –
1. US History
2. Indian History
3. European History
4. World History
5. Current Events
All contest rules will be similar to the Geography Bee for purposes of conducting the contest.
